CryoPen Treatment: Your Complete Guide

5 min readBy Olivia Minot

If you have unwanted skin lesions — milia, skin tags, cherry angiomas, age spots, or sun damage — CryoPen offers a fast, precise, and virtually painless solution. At The Skin Clinic Essex, we use the latest CryoPen technology to freeze and destroy these lesions in seconds, leaving the surrounding skin completely unharmed.

Cryotherapy skin lesion removal treatment in clinic

What Is CryoPen Treatment?

CryoPen is a medical-grade cryotherapy device that delivers a fine, high-pressure jet of nitrous oxide directly onto a skin lesion. The extreme cold — reaching temperatures of -89°C — destroys the abnormal tissue at a cellular level. The treatment is highly targeted, meaning only the lesion is affected and the healthy skin around it is left completely intact. It is one of the most precise and effective methods for removing benign skin lesions available today.

What Can CryoPen Treat?

CryoPen is suitable for a wide range of benign skin lesions including milia (small white cysts), skin tags, cherry angiomas (red blood vessel spots), age spots, sun damage patches, seborrhoeic keratoses, and verrucas and warts. During your consultation, Olivia will assess each lesion and confirm suitability for treatment.

What to Expect During Treatment

The treatment itself takes just seconds per lesion. You may feel a mild stinging sensation as the nitrous oxide is applied — similar to a cold pen touching the skin. There is no anaesthetic required. After treatment, the area may appear slightly red and a small blister can form, which is completely normal. The lesion will darken and fall away naturally over the following 1–4 weeks, leaving clear, healthy skin beneath.

Aftercare & Recovery

CryoPen requires very little downtime. You can return to your normal activities immediately. Keep the treated area clean and dry, avoid picking at any scabbing, and apply SPF daily to protect the healing skin. Most lesions resolve fully within 2–4 weeks. A follow-up appointment is included to assess results and treat any remaining tissue if needed.
